Wealth Creation and Spirituality
Why does a wealth creator need to understand spirituality? There is some connection between Wealth Creation and Spirituality.
Jin Khoja tin payian gaheren pani paith Main bapura duban darya raha kinare baith!
(Those who tried to find could find their desires come true in deep waters, like a deep-sea diver finding a precious pearl. I was so scared of submerging that I clung to the bank)
The equity markets make you believe in this doha said centuries ago by Sant Kabir! The investors who sit on the sidelines are left with meager returns of their savings account versus the ones who dive deep in the markets. The latter ones are rewarded well for their patience and right selection. The faith is the magic potion which makes all the difference.
How is SIP linked with spirituality? In various religions and spiritual sciences, a lot has been told about being in balance through all the ups and downs in life. They say you should be in “SAM-BHAVA” that is, your attitude towards life situations should be equal. It should not be lamenting when the difficulties look at you in the face nor being carried away when you are at the top of your life.
We advise our clients to remain neutral to the volatility of markets and stick to their asset allocation for wealth creation by keeping the SIPs on. This ensures that at the end of their time horizon they are benefited. The advice to clients for not going overboard when markets are making new highs and not be disappointed when markets are in red. This is what a spiritual master would advise.
Stock markets are all about ups and downs, about joy and sorrow, about anticipation and desperation. So is our life. The only thing certain about our life is its “Uncertainty”. Like life, the markets cannot be predicted with 100% accuracy, any small eventuality anywhere in the world has the power to influence the markets. It is the same thing with life, when we get up in the morning, we do not know how the day will unfold, even when it is planned perfectly.
There is never a permanent loser or a permanent winner for the market. The company which will be in the top 50 companies of Sensex can be out of it within a year, highlighting the transient nature of the markets. The right selection also is highlighted in one of the dohas of Kabir, where he says,
“Kabir, laheri Samand ki, Moti bikheri aayi.. Bagula Bhed na Janiye, Haansa chuni – chuni khaayi”
In our stock Markets, there are so many companies but the right selection is what will create wealth. Life moves in cycles, like seasons, so does the stock market.
It’s the game of MAYA. the game where greed and fear rule the emotions. Like in life, the investor in stock markets is punished or rewarded for his behavior. If the investor can look at Reds in his portfolio with the same detachment as the Greens, he can create wealth irrespective of the volatility the market faces.
If the investor believes in doing “NISHKAM KARMA” of continuing his work of investing through his lifecycle, making the right decisions, and then leaving the outcome in the hands of the higher power, he is suitably awarded for life. At the same time, we cannot be careless or impatient.
Qualities of patience, faith, awareness, discipline and being balanced creates miracles for a human being so does it for the investor. It is amazing that the qualities that make a human being better also makes a better investor!
